NASA is launching its cloud computing platform called NEBULA in beta, a platform that integrates a set of open-source components into a single self-service platform.

From the architecture diagram you can see database elements such as MySQL Cluster, storage network clustering solution such as the Lustre File System, elements of the Eucalyptus cloud system, Trac, SubVersion, the RabbitMQ queue messaging system, languages such as Python, Java, the SOLR indexing and search system and others.

The platform intended for scientific research is in limited beta and they are looking for beta testers “Computonauti” among scientists, to refine algorithms or do analysis, all to support serendipity, that is, that neologism indicating the feeling of a sudden discovery when research is looking for something else.

It should be noted that this first datacenter is located at the Ames Research Center, in the Ames Internet Exchange (AIX), one of the original nodes of the Internet
